How To Increase Your Endurance For Running

By Raymond Almsharr

If you are anything like me, then you probably really enjoy running (and cardio in general). Running is an excellent way to stay fit and healthy, and is fun because you get to go literally anywhere you want while doing it. However, you will definitely need a certain level of endurance in order to maintain a steady pace. But do not worry; it is not all that difficult to increase your endurance.

For those just starting out, a great technique to up your endurance is to run an extra quarter mile each time you run. Do this for a week straight. Yes, it may be hard, but it will not take long to go that extra quarter mile; just relax your mind and do not focus on how long it is going to take to go that extra distance.

Another very effective way to increase your stamina is to add in just 1 extra day per week to your running. This is very effective because the more often that you run (or do any type of cardio exercise), the better your endurance becomes. Most people just do not realize how effective this can be, especially if you only run once or twice per week. This is possibly the single most effective way to build up your endurance for running. Expect to see significant results after just a month or so.

Also, do not be afraid to try some other fun activities; this can be a great way to build endurance, and add variety. For example, try a fun, fast paced sport in which you are constantly moving/running for a somewhat long period of time. A perfect example would be the sport of airsoft, since you will literally always be running in this game (especially since you are getting shot at with plastic airsoft BBs by other players). This is just one example of a fun way to build your endurance by utilizing a popular recreational sport.

Lastly, one more thing you should consider trying is interval training; this can be EXTREMELY effective for building endurance for running. Interval training simply means doing harder work for a shorter period of time. Sprinting is a perfect example of this, as is running up hills, and so on. This will not only make you stronger, but it will surely increase your endurance as well, even if it seems like it does not take much time. So put it to the test; after a couple weeks of adding in some interval training (and the strategies mentioned above), test your endurance level and see how long you can run for; you might just surprise yourself! - 30552
